Outlaw Star: Distant Star Era
Fixed Star Era: The FSE began sometime during the 20th century. Explorers set out into space in search of fortune and adventure. Within the Solar System they discovered other life, ecosystems and civilizations established on places such as Venus and Mars. The Fixed Star Era employed the use of magic, in this case mana, the natural energy of a planet to power spaceships and weapons like the Caster Gun.
Towards star era: The beginning of the TSE is said to be marked by the discovery of “dragonite”, a unique and rare material integral to faster-than-light travel. With the development of the first FTL drive underway, humanity bled their way into the reaches of space beyond the Solar System in search of more dragonite, their travels likely bringing them into contact with other species that inhabit the galaxy, with established religions, life styles, attitudes and solar systems of their own. The event was likened to the “Gold Rush” of the 19th and 20th centuries. In order to prevent space become outright lawlessness, governments of Earth established the Earth Federation, which was unfortunately still susceptible to a politically unstable landscape, as factions vie for complete dominance.
Humankind gradually adapted to space lifestyle as the TSE progressed. Planets were terraformed to match Earth conditions or something similar and new systems were named and discovered. Space stations, like the Toward Star Inn and Blue Heaven, were created to accommodate the long periods of time experienced between space travel.
Poverty and financial strife within struggling colonies on the outskirts of the frontier world were more likely to be targeted by pirates and thieves. As a result private corporations established private security that was, in some cases, more affordable for the less fortunate. However, there were those who profited on the the disadvantageous of poor colonists and charged for their protection and looked down individuals who provided free protection.
Species from different plants and systems appear to able to mingle with humankind without major conflict, though there are still instances of prejudice aimed toward beings created by man, such as bio androids (born of organic and machine elements) and the Saurians, lizard men created from the genes of the dinosaurs.
Distant Star Era: The DSE is marked by two main events, the synthesizing of Dragonite and the discovery of large Space Stations called Hubs. The manufacturing of Dragonite and the growing influence of mining guilds made the treasure hunting gold rush mentality of the TSE unprofitable. Pure dragonite is still valuable but is now tightly controlled.
The Hubs were discovered on the outskirts of frontier space. Left behind by an unknown presumed extinct race, these Hubs connect to each other through wormholes bringing together far distant corners of the universe and all the new species and powers that come with it. As is normal with the opening up of such cast new territory power struggles are rampant as empires and coalitions clash over the Hubs and borders.
Two groups have flourished during this time of strife, Corporations and Pirates. Corporations have utilized commerce and strength to grow more influential than many planetary powers. True pirates roam the tumultuous space ways in search of profit and privateers do the bidding of their patrons.
